I've always had a lot to say, but did not always feel brave enough to speak. I have a story. I have knowledge to share. I have experiences to reference. I have inspiration to heal. I was just scared. Actually, it was more like terrified! I was terrified!
In 2016 while working on a book with 23 other women authors, I realized how terrified I had become of using my voice and my own words to tell my story. Funny enough, the book I was writing my story for was titled, "The Art of Being Brave". Go figure! Each author wrote a story from a time in their lives when bravery was all they had left to get through a difficult situation. I wrote my story and it sat on my computer for weeks. I just could not find the courage to attach my story to an email and send to the editor. I went searching for some words that would give me that extra burst of courage that I needed to press the 'send' button. I came across this quote: "We will be brave. Because our bravery wins a thousand battles that we can't see because our bravery strengthens others to win their battle too." (Ann Voskamp). I decided to personalize it to me: I will be brave. Because my bravery wins a thousand battles that I can't see because my bravery strengthens others to win their battle too. Speaking my truth is less about me and more about others. Someone is waiting for me to tell my story, share my business experience & expertise, market a solution to their business problem or let them know that successful women suffer with anxiety and depression. To clarify, my fear was not speaking in front of others. I started my own business in 2010 and have facilitated many courses, privately coached clients and was an Adjunct Faculty for two local community colleges. Letting others in to the vulnerable parts of my was my fear. Letting the world know that I had great products & services to offer was my fear. I feared rejection. I feared success. “The thing about being brave is it doesn’t come with the absence of fear and hurt. Bravery is the ability to look fear and hurt in the face and say, move aside, you are in the way.” (Melissa Tumino) At the end of 2016, I decided that I was going to going to look fear in the face and walk fully in my gift of speaking, teaching and coaching. So, I launched my #iSpeak campaign! What is the #iSpeak? It is me finally shouting aloud to the world that I am ready, willing and able to use my voice to change lives around the world. I speak. I inspire. I motivate. I coach. I teach. I want the opportunity to speak with your group, ministry, clients and staff and share my wealth of knowledge and experience. On which topics can I speak? I can speak on a variety of topics related to small businesses, nonprofits, ministry, motherhood, mental health and missions. To view a sample list of my topics click here.
